The Barbados Workers’ Union welcomes applications from suitable candidates to join its team. The incumbent must be an efficient and detail-oriented individual who is well organised and knowledgeable of accounting principals and practices.   

Duties and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: 

  1. Assist with the preparation and issuance of accurate invoices in a timely manner.  

  2. Manage recurring billing schedules and update customer records as needed. Reconcile member accounts and maintain accurate AR aging reports. 

  3. Contact members and external customers to resolve billing disputes and negotiate payment plans if necessary  

  4. Ensure outstanding fees are received in a timely manner. 

  5. Investigate, address and resolve payment discrepancies with members and external customers.  

  6. Monitor outstanding balances and follow up with members on overdue accounts.  

  7. Monitor and enforce credit policies and procedures. 

  8. Assists with the management of  records and receipts. 

  9. Assists with the development, review and improvement of financial policies and work processes to ensure the meeting of targets and production of quality information.  

  10. Processes invoices and enters and reconciles member information and transactional data into the appropriate accounting programmes. 

  11. Develops an in-depth knowledge of BWU services and processes to provide efficient and effective customer service to members and union partners. 

  12. Assists with the management of the Union’s rental.  

  13. Supports the Financial Controller and collaborates with other departments to achieve Union and departmental goals.  

  14. Identify opportunities to enhance Account Receivable processes and workflows and knowledgeable about the best practices and new technologies in accounts receivable management.  

  15. Assists with the coordination of the Union’s registration and voting procedures at the BWU’s Annual Delegates’ Conference. 

Qualifications Required: 

Completion of an Associates Degree in Accounting, Business Administration or related field and  three (3) or more years of Accounts Receivable experience.  

  

Required Knowledge  

1.  The core values of the BWU.  

2.  Demonstrated knowledge of the Mission, Vision, and Customer Service Charter of the Union. 

3.   Knowledge of general procedures, and rules that effect the functioning of the Union. 

4.  Knowledge of communication channels and reporting procedures within the Union. 

5.  Knowledge and experience of relevant software applications – including but not limited to Power Point, spreadsheet, word processing and database management. 

6.  Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures.  

7.  Knowledge of business principles. 


Required Skills and Abilities 

  1. High proficiency in Accounts Recievable processes and workflow. 

  2. High proficiency in Quickbooks.  

  3. Knowledge of  AML stipulations would be an asset. 

  4. Computer skills with high proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite 

  5. Outstanding and professional customer service skills and a willingness to comply with the Union’s obligations to provide good customer services. 

  6. Excellent communication and time management skills. 

  7. Experience with complex accounting systems. 

  8. Good interpersonal skills  

  9. Must be a team player. 

  10. The ability to multitask. 

  11. The ability to quickly acquire and apply new knowledge. 

  12. The ability to work with minimal supervision. 

  13. Ability to meet deadlines. 

  14. The ability to maintain high levels of confidentiality.
